Giving it a Boot
The rain did it. First it came down in torrents, then it sprinkled, and poured down again. All day long. For one whole week. I didn’t mind because I’m used to tropical downpours during wet season in Singa- “summer all year round” -pore. But the temperature dropped about seven degrees Celsius from last week, so I got out the moderately warm jacket, in this season’s mixed grey wool with the cute round collar and large buttons, hopefully classic but not trendy, and set it to work with a couple of sweaters, knits and scarves.
Perhaps it was the mirror in our favourite mainstream grilled chicken burger joint that did it, I’m not interested to know. What I do know is that I looked in the mirror and realised that the jacket looked much better than I though it did, the neckline comfortably padded with black cashmere and my favourite slim leg cropped pants but–bare ankles exposed with the rainy day shoes–damn, a pair of long legged boots would’ve completed the autumn-near-winter look.
I’ve been talking about boots the past week and would really love a pair from Camper because they’re beautifully streamlined but about twice the price of the usual department store brand, half that of a luxe brand that I can’t afford. Added to the fact that I recently got paid for my first few weeks at the studio and that I currently live in a city that never stops shopping, a girl on the loose with her wages needs to be stopped … by herself.
Damn, it sucks to have interests in both fashion and photography. Do I really want to keep my feet warm or would I rather have a new workhorse lens that costs about two months’ rent?

i would buy the lens leh, light
and this is coming from the most digitally ignorant person of all time. yes. even compared to kublai khan
then again, the boots…but i mean. boots tend to kill the feet. if they’re less than a hundred i’d go for them, but the connotations of your sentence lead me to believe they don’t cost less than a hundred. man! leather boots! expensive sexy bondage and domination leather boo…..eh. pai say. wa got carried away
not very helpful, am i
IT’S NOT MY FAULT. THE BABY LIGHT. THE BABY IS MAKING ME CRY AT ALL TIMES OF THE DAY FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. THE BABY IS MAKING ME DITHER FOR WAY TOO LONG BETWEEN RICE AND PORRIDGE FOR DINNER
eh. sorry. anyway like i was saying. i think the lens would be a deeper, more satisfying investment, unless you’re dead sure you’ll be wearing your boots til death do you part - or at least, til 2020 -and that you won’t swerve in your allegiance to your chosen pair once the next flashy beauty comes trotting along
aiyah. don’t listen to me lah. i got no fashion sense, and technologically, even noah would be better than me at using a dslr - to take a nice shot of the sky from his ark. follow your heart. oh! and, if mattie thinks those pair of boots are worth the buy……. =)

Yes veering towards the lens at the moment.
D: I was thinking the 24-70L f2.8, but have been advised against it as it is heavy and is the same price as 2 good prime lenses.

Hi Jasmin! ef 24-70 2.8 is a great lens but on 1.6x crop camera isn’t so nice to use. Best lenses for me are 17-40L , 50mm 1.4 and 70-200 f4L . No feel to need more on my photography. ( maybe a 10-20mm but the canon is really expensive and the sigma one has some problems in flare and color cast). By the way I think you’re sexy also with a canon lens in hand like with a new pair of shoes!

I’m the same way except with paints and canvases. Would I rather get a new easel? Or a new pair of jeans which I’m in desperate need of?

Well, considering the fact that the boots are an investment in your health… Otherwise, the lens wont go out of fashion as fast as the boots… Ack, I don’t know, I guess I would buy the lens. ;-)
